Escape Into Aesthetics
I think I might switch from Camel 99s (which are somehow cheaper than regular Camels) to Parliament Lights.
I remember that I used to smoke them, and that my roommate smoked them and that I convinced him to switch to Camel Lights years ago. But a coworker gave me 3/4 of a pack the other day, and I kind of liked them much more than I remembered. The chemical aftertaste that I used to hate about them wasn’t there, and I really like the package design.
I guess it’s kind of embarrassing that I’m motivated by package design in switching brands (especially since I think Parliaments are more expensive). I guess it’s also slightly embarrassing that the package design on Parliament Lights is probably intended to win female smokers, since I remember reading once that the Lucky Strike box was changed from green to white to attract female smokers, and that the mostly white Marlboro packaging was originally a ladies brand.
It also might just be because the blue on the label reminds me of Gauloises and Gitanes.
