That, and it allows me to relive my early smoking experience of Gauloises. When I was seventeen* you could still buy Gauloises (although not Gitanes) at smoke shops and I favored them because of their sharp taste and, especially, because they burned very quickly. My best friend was considerably larger than me, so when we would smoke he would be finished with his cigarette while I was only maybe halfway through my own, so if I smoked Gauloises our smoking times would balance out.
Also, the packaging on Parliaments has a diagonally bifurcated rectangle with two shades of blue which roughly correspond to the dark- to light-blue color gradation on the cover of my copy of Infinite Jest, so my accessory smokes can match my accessory lit.
[* at which time I was certainly into French New Wave, although not yet into French existentialism, which I’ve never really been into except for liking The Plague when I was eighteen, and which I continue to recommend to people for some reason despite never bothering to reevaluate it….]
